KADUTHURUTHY MAHADEVA TEMPLE

Kaduthuruthy Mahadevar Temple, situated at Kaduthuruthy in Kottayam District of Kerala, is dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to legend, the shivling (symbolic representation of the deity) was installed here by a demon named ’Khara’. He had obtained 3 shivlings from the lord, as a reward for his utter devotion. Other two shivlings were installed at the Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple and Vaikom Mahadevar Temple. A visit to these 3 temples is believed to be very auspicious.

Evidences reveal that the shivling of this temple was brought to this place by an asura saint 'Khara,' together with other two shivlings, one of them consecrated at Vaikom Mahadeva Temple and another one at Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple. The visit to the three-shiva shrines at Ettumanoor, Kaduthuruthy and Vaikom all in one day is believed to be very auspicious.
